Transcatheter treatments and novel agents offer less invasive, effective strategies for elderly heart failure patients.
Why the study?
Heart failure is increasing with population aging, mortality remains high, and healthcare costs are substantial, prompting a review of the latest treatments focusing on valvular heart disease and cardiac amyloidosis in the elderly.
This review outlines recent therapeutic advances for elderly patients with heart failure, focusing on transcatheter interventions for valvular disease and novel therapies for cardiac amyloidosis.
May inform decisions for elderly HF; leaves open need for dedicated RCTs before practice change.

Yasuchika Takeishi (2022) conducted a review in Heart failure in elderly patients (aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, cardiac amyloidosis). Transcatheter treatments (TAVI, TMVr) and novel agents (tafamidis, patisiran) was evaluated.
