Key result
Native 38 pS K+ channels in cerebellar neurons comprise both homomeric TASK-3 and heteromeric TASK-1/TASK-3.
Why the study?
Whether functional TASK-1/TASK-3 heteromeric K+ channels are present in native cerebellar granule neurons was not known.
Population
Cultured cerebellar granule neurons and COS-7 cells expressing TASK-1 and TASK-3
Comparison
Responses of TASK-1, TASK-3, and TASK-1/TASK-3 channels to extracellular pH changes and ruthenium red
Design
Electrophysiological study using outside-out patch recordings and expression in COS-7 cells

Does not inform clinical practice; leaves open the role of TASK-1/TASK-3 heteromers in native human cerebellar function.
This study demonstrates the presence of functional TASK-1/TASK-3 heteromeric channels in native cerebellar granule neurones.
Kang et al. (2003) studied this question. Ruthenium red and extracellular pH changes was evaluated on Single-channel conductance and inhibition by pHo and ruthenium red. Electrophysiological studies show that native 38 pS K+ channels of the TASK family in cultured cerebellar granule neurones consist of both homomeric TASK-3 and heteromeric TASK-1/TASK-3.
