Key result
Antimetabolites for NSCLC linked to severe digital ischemia alongside prolonged tumor responses in two patients.
Why the study?
Rare vascular side effects such as vascular acrosyndromes and digital ischemia during antimetabolite treatment in advanced NSCLC are poorly understood and may relate to tumor response.
Comparison
Pemetrexed and gemcitabine exposure with vascular acrosyndromes
Design
Case report of two patients

Digital ischemia may mark exceptional antimetabolite responses in advanced NSCLC; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation.
Case Report (n=2)
Severe vascular acrosyndrome such as digital ischemia can occur in lung cancer patients treated with antimetabolites, which may be associated with prolonged tumor response.
Geier et al. (2021) conducted a case report in Advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) (n=2). Antimetabolites (pemetrexed and gemcitabine) was evaluated on Development of vascular acrosyndrome and tumor response duration. Two patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer developed severe digital ischemia during treatment with antimetabolites but experienced prolonged tumor responses of over 3 years and 16 months.
