Inflammatory markers CRP, RDW, NLR, and PLR are linked to AF occurrence, recurrence, and prognosis.
Why the study?
Inflammation is closely related to atrial fibrillation, but the correlation between specific inflammation-related indicators and AF requires comprehensive review.
This review highlights the potential role of inflammatory biomarkers (RDW, CRP, NLR, PLR) in the mechanism and assessment of atrial fibrillation.
May inform AF risk stratification; leaves open need for prospective validation before clinical use.
Atrial fibrillation (atrial fibrillation, AF) is one of the most common arrhythmias, and the normal electrical activity of the atrium is replaced by a rapid and disordered fibrillation wave, which has a high rate of recurrence, disability, and mortality. In recent years, AF occupies an important role in cardiovascular diseases and can lead to many serious adverse consequences. With the intensive study of the mechanism of AF, it was found that inflammation is closely related to AF. Therefore, in this paper, the relevant inflammatory indicators, such as red blood cell distribution width (RDW), C-reactive protein (CRP), neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and atrial fibrillation were reviewed.

(2025) conducted a review in Atrial Fibrillation. Inflammatory markers (CRP, RDW, NLR, PLR, SII, SIRI, MHR) was evaluated. Inflammatory markers such as CRP, RDW, NLR, and PLR are closely associated with the occurrence, recurrence, and prognosis of atrial fibrillation.
