Key result
LVH and greater HF severity are linked to reduced myocardial ATP2A2 and RYR2 expression.
Why the study?
The relative expression of the Ca2+-ATPase SERCA2a gene (ATP2A2) and the ryanodine receptor (RYR2) gene in myocardium of patients with coronary artery disease complicated by heart failure was not well characterized.
Observational (n=85)
Myocardial expression of ATP2A2 and RYR2 genes is decreased in patients with coronary artery disease and heart failure who have left ventricular hypertrophy, and RYR2 expression correlates inversely with heart failure severity.
Should not yet change HF management; leaves open whether ATP2A2/RYR2 modulation affects LVH progression.
The analysis of the relative expression of the Ca2+-ATPase SERCA2a gene (ATP2A2) and the ryanodine receptor (RYR2) gene in the myocardium of 85 patients with coronary artery disease complicated by heart failure, depending on the clinical picture of the disease, was performed. A decrease in the expression level of the ATP2A2 and RYR2 genes in patients with left ventricular hypertrophy was revealed. It was established that the expression level of the RYR2 gene decreased with the severity of the functional class of heart failure. A correlation was found between the expression level of the ATP2A2 gene and the echocardiography parameters.

Муслимова et al. (2020) conducted an observational in Coronary artery disease complicated by heart failure (n=85). Left ventricular hypertrophy and heart failure severity was evaluated on Expression level of ATP2A2 and RYR2 genes in the myocardium. Left ventricular hypertrophy and increased heart failure severity were associated with decreased myocardial expression of the ATP2A2 and RYR2 genes.
