Mitral valve plasty with ASD closure resolves severe mitral regurgitation with no recurrence at 4 years.
Why the study?
Reports of mitral valve plasty for mitral regurgitation caused by chordal rupture complicated by atrial septal defect are scarce.
Case Report (n=1)
No
This case report highlights the rare occurrence and successful surgical management of severe mitral regurgitation due to chordal rupture complicating an atrial septal defect.
Successful chordal MR repair in ASD is feasible in selected cases; extends sparse reports but leaves generalizability open.

Tatsu et al. (2020) conducted a case report in Severe mitral regurgitation caused by chordal rupture complicated by secundum atrial septal defect (n=1). Mitral valve plasty, tricuspid annuloplasty, and ASD closure was evaluated on Resolution of symptoms and regurgitation. Mitral valve plasty with artificial chordae and annuloplasty, combined with ASD closure, successfully treated severe mitral regurgitation caused by chordal rupture, with no recurrence at 4 years.
