Co-occurrence of idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and LVNC supports a shared phenotypic link.
Why the study?
The relationship between idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and left ventricular non compaction is not well established.
This case report supports the hypothesis linking idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and left ventricular non-compaction.
Supports hypothesis linking idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and left ventricular noncompaction; hypothesis-generating and should not change practice.
We report the case of a 30-year-old man who presented with NYHA I-II class and combined findings of idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and left ventricular non compaction at left ventricular angiogram. Coronary angiography was normal and 6-month follow-up uneventful. This case supports the hypothesis linking idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and left ventricular non compaction.

Brunetti et al. (2010) studied this question. The co-occurrence of idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy and left ventricular non-compaction in a single patient supports the hypothesis linking these two cardiac conditions.
