Apps and mobile technology has major benefits for healthcare providers and consumers, including: Improved patient care through greater communication between professionals, and from professionals to patients; Reducing the cost of healthcare provision; Giving patients greater involvement in their own conditions, through better education and understanding, therefore reducing the need for visits to hospital and doctors’ surgeries; greater patient access to medical records; and Making education and refresher training more accessible for healthcare professionals, providing the option of working from home or on the move, when most convenient. The increasing proliferation of iPhones, iPads and other similar devices will make this even more apparent. New applications will also come to the fore. This view has been endorsed by numerous health organisations, both in the UK and North America, including the current Government.
