Ergometrine testing offers the highest sensitivity and reproducibility among provocative tests for coronary artery spasm.
Why the study?
Coronary artery spasm is a recognized cause of angina, but spontaneous spasm is rare and multiple provocative tests exist with varying sensitivity and reproducibility.
Answers are grounded in this paper and cite their sources.
The ergometrine test is highlighted as the preferred provocative test for diagnosing coronary artery spasm due to its sensitivity and reproducibility.
Coronary artery spasm has become a frequently recognized cause of angina. Since spontaneous spasm is a rare occurrence, a number of provocative tests have been proposed. We will not discuss the different criteria of various tests, but having compared them, it seems to us that the ergometrine is the most sensitive, the most reproducible and the easiest to perform. Thus we will discuss only the ergometrine test.

Lablanche et al. (1986) conducted a review in Coronary artery spasm in recent myocardial infarction. Ergometrine test vs. Other provocative tests was evaluated. The ergometrine test is considered the most sensitive, reproducible, and easiest to perform provocative test for coronary artery spasm.
