Pep1-KLH immunization boosts survival to 80% vs. 13% after lethal DHAV-1 challenge.
Why the study?
Duck hepatitis A virus causes severe diseases threatening the duck industry worldwide, and the VP1 protein induces neutralizing antibodies in ducks.
Absolute Event Rate: 80% vs 13.3%

Supports mimotope vaccine development for DHAV in ducks; leaves open translation to field efficacy.
Zhang et al. (2020) studied Duck viral hepatitis (DHAV infection) (n=180). Pep1-KLH immunization vs. PepN-KLH immunization was evaluated on Survival after DHAV-1 infection. Immunization with the synthetic peptide Pep1-KLH protected ducklings against lethal challenge with DHAV-1, resulting in 80% survival compared to 13.3% in the control group.
