This paper examines the characteristics of distribution and layout of the stages for the mura-shibai in Aichi prefecture. While previous studies reported the existence of 183 mura-shibai stages in Aichi Prefecture, the survey conducted for this study has identified 419 stages, of which 194 are extant. This study also clarifies the characteristics of the layout of mura-shibai stages in Aichi Prefecture. The layout of these stages was determined by the following factors: the provision of shrine approaches, the provision of audience space, the orientation of the stage, prohibitions on mura-shibai, and building regulations within shrine precincts.
