Key result
Verapamil plus fluconazole reduces resistant Candida albicans fungal recovery by ~0.6 log10 in larvae.
Why the study?
Calcium entry blockers are increasingly used for hypertension treatment, but differences in their effects and long-term outcomes remain unclear.
Effect estimate: 0.58 log10 reduction
p-value: p=<0.001

May support adjunctive verapamil testing against resistant Candida; leaves open translation beyond invertebrate models.
Norman M. Kaplan (1989) studied Fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans infection. Verapamil and Fluconazole vs. Control (saline) was evaluated on Fungal recovery (log10 CFU/mL) (0.58 log10 reduction, p=<0.001). The combination of verapamil and fluconazole significantly reduced fungal recovery by 0.58 log10 compared to control in Galleria mellonella larvae infected with fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans.
