May support targeted discharge planning for older Turkish patients; hypothesis-generating for unmeasured factors driving ethnic readmission disparities.
Troëng et al. (1990) conducted a cohort in Hospitalized patients (n=433,501). Ethnic minority status (Turkish origin) vs. Ethnic Dutch origin was evaluated on Unplanned clinical readmission within 30 days (adjusted for case mix and socioeconomic status in patients >45 years) (OR 1.19, 95% CI 1.13-1.25). Turkish patients older than 45 years had a 19% higher risk of unplanned 30-day readmission compared to ethnic Dutch patients (OR 1.19) after adjusting for case mix and socioeconomic status.
