Key result
Community-based health education improves hypertension knowledge and reduces systolic BP by up to ~20 mmHg.
Why the study?
Hypertension has a high prevalence and is often undetected, necessitating promotive-preventive interventions through community-based health education.
Does community-based health education improve knowledge and reduce blood pressure in populations at risk of or with hypertension?
Systematic Review
Does community-based health education improve knowledge and reduce blood pressure in populations at risk of or with hypertension?
Community-based health education is an effective non-pharmacological strategy to improve health literacy, promote healthy lifestyles, and lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
Supports incorporating community-based education into hypertension care; extends Level 1 evidence for non-pharmacological strategies.

Taopik et al. (2025) conducted a systematic review in Hypertension. Community-based health education vs. No education or standard care was evaluated on Blood pressure reduction and knowledge increase. Community-based health education consistently increased knowledge by 40-95% and reduced systolic blood pressure by up to 20 mmHg and diastolic by up to 13 mmHg.
