Key result
Preliminary study evaluates iron deficiency's hemodynamic impact in acute heart failure.
Why the study?
Iron deficiency is highly prevalent in acute heart failure patients and its impact on hemodynamic status requires further investigation.
Observational
Supports iron and hemodynamic assessment in acute HF; hypothesis-generating for targeted IV iron with randomized trials needed.
Iron deficiency (ID) is one of the leading causes of anaemia, particularly in patients with heart failure (HF). It is estimated that more than 80% of patients with acute heart failure (AHF) are affected by ID. Given the strong association between ID and HF, and the evidence that intravenous administration of ferric derisomaltose or ferric carboxymaltose can improve clinical outcomes, the 2021 European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines emphasise the importance of regular assessment of anaemia and ID in patients with HF.

Carelli et al. (2026) conducted an observational in Acute heart failure and iron deficiency. Iron deficiency was evaluated. The impact of iron deficiency on hemodynamic status in patients with acute heart failure was investigated in a preliminary study, but the abstract reports no specific results or data.
