This study examines the role of accounting education in promoting sustainable economic development in the digital era. This paper is anchored on a conceptual review of relevant literature on accounting education, digital transformation, sustainability, financial literacy, innovation, and economic development. Accounting education plays a critical role in developing digitally competent accounting professionals who can effectively apply emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, cloud accounting, big data analytics, block-chain, and digital financial systems. Beyond technical accounting knowledge, contemporary accounting education promotes ethical decision-making, transparency, accountability, entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, and responsible resource management, all of which are essential for sustainable economic development. The paper further highlights the importance of integrating digital skills, sustainability accounting, data analytics, information technology, and professional ethics into accounting curricula to prepare learners for the changing demands of the labor market and the digital economy. The study concludes that strengthening accounting education through curriculum modernization, technological integration, industry–academia collaboration, continuous professional development, and competency-based learning can enhance productivity, employability, innovation, and responsible economic decision-making. This paper recommends that educational institutions, policymakers, professional accounting bodies, and other stakeholders should strategically reposition accounting education to respond to digital transformation and contribute meaningfully to inclusive and sustainable economic development
