This article addresses university extension from its pedagogical dimension, with a focus on curricular integration experiences. Within this framework, it presents the course Social and Institutional Aspects of the University, a transversal subject across undergraduate programs at Universidad Nacional del Noroeste de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (UNNOBA), Argentina. This course constitutes a strategy for curricular integration of community engagement, as it requires students to carry out socio-community practices as a condition for course completion. The aim of this study was to describe the perceptions of faculty and students regarding the socio-community practices associated with this course during the 2023–2024 period. Documentary analysis of UNNOBA resolutions related to university extension, in order to determine its degree of institutionalization and the evolution of faculty participation. To gather information on the implementation of socio-community practices within the course, a survey was administered to the responsible faculty members. Additionally, the end-of-course student survey was analyzed to understand their perceptions and evaluations of this experience. The results confirm the positive effects of the integration of university extension and community engagement, both in enriching learning processes and in enhancing teaching practices and development. The analysis showed that student participation in socio-communitary practices strengthens the development of competencies in three dimensions: academic, personal and social, while fostering university social engagement and the application of knowledge in real-world contexts.
