This study presents a textual analysis of Genshin Impact (HoYoverse, 2020), a globally popular free-to-play Action RPG Open World game. Utilizing the methodological framework from Clara Fernández-Vara’s Introduction to Game Analysis, this research dissects the game through three primary areas: Context, Game Overview, and Formal Elements. The core argument highlights that Genshin Impact's phenomenal success is attributed not only to its high production quality but also to the seamless integration of its gacha monetization model with its formal design elements. The analysis demonstrates how core mechanics, such as exploration and elemental combat systems, directly reward players with resources necessary for the gacha system. Furthermore, the most crucial choices made by players are strategic resource management decisions tied to the monetization cycle, rather than mere narrative choices. In conclusion, Genshin Impact serves as a prominent case study of how a live service business model can function as the backbone of the gaming experience, transforming player engagement from narrative progression into an addictive and sustainable cycle of economic management.
