The article addresses the problem of setting goals and defining the content of the school informatics course at the basic level of secondary education, amidst ongoing discussions regarding the draft of the updated Federal State Educational Standard for Secondary General Education (FSES SGE). A comparative analysis of the current Federal Working Curriculum and the draft of the new standard reveals a trend toward overloading the basic course with complex theoretical sections, while facing a severe shortage of instructional time and a lack of preparedness among teaching staff. It is shown that the direct duplication of material from 7–9th grades and excessive academicism reduce the practical value of the subject for secondary school students who do not plan to take the Unified State Exam (USE) in informatics. A conceptual approach to revising the content is proposed: moving away from abstract algorithmic theory in favor of an interdisciplinary, applied use of digital technologies. Specific ideas are described for applying elements of Boolean algebra, numeral systems, and spreadsheets for the pre-professional orientation of students specializing in the humanities and socio-economic fields.
