Radical reduction achieves effective transformation of aryl halides, suggesting potential in isotopic labeling and synthesis.
Herein, we report an operationally simple photoinduced radical reduction of aryliodides and arylbromides using NHC-borane as a reductant, without external radical initiator or photoredox catalyst. Mechanistic investigations indicate the key formation of an aryl radical, which undergoes facile reduction by NHC-borane. The method demonstrates compatibility with a broad range of functional groups, providing a valuable tool for synthesis and isotopic labeling
