This method shows an effective reduction of aryl halides in synthesis, indicating new applications for isotopic labeling.
Herein, we report an operationally simple photoinduced radical reduction of aryliodides and arylbromides using NHC-borane as a reductant, without external radical initiator or photoredox catalyst. Mechanistic investigations indicate the key formation of an aryl radical, which undergoes facile reduction by NHC-borane. The method demonstrates compatibility with a broad range of functional groups, providing a valuable tool for synthesis and isotopic labeling
