The presented scientific work analyzes theoretical and practical approaches to environmental management. The conceptual foundations of environmentally sustainable development as a promising model of civilizational progress in the context of globalization are considered. Particular attention is paid to the «green economy» as an integral part of sustainable development, as well as the role of environmental innovations in its formation. The author analyzes the theoretical and methodological principles of environmental ESG audit and nonfinancial reporting in the context of the development of the «green» economy. The importance of environmental safety as a key national priority in the system of ensuring national security of the Russian Federation is emphasized. The current problems and future prospects for the development of the «green» economy in Russia are studied, taking into account international experience. The author concludes that the competitiveness of the Russian economy, mutually beneficial international cooperation and environmental stability are important factors for sustainable development and improving the level of environmental safety of the Russian Federation. Environmental management, ESG audit and environmental innovations are highlighted as priority areas of the «green» economy.
