Literature review identifies the economic potential of waqf in livestock, highlighting food security issues.
The current food chain crisis is becoming increasingly acute and becoming a global problem. This is because of the increase in pressure due to the weather, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, disruption of raw supplies and the instability of political conflicts. As a result, Malaysia also receives setbacks such as a lack of meat supply in the market, the cost of imported bran feed is expensive, thus causing the price of animal husbandry operation costs to increase. This in turn affects the economic impact as a whole, especially the government, private and community sectors. Thus, this study aims to see the potential direction of waqf that can be developed and expanded in the livestock sector in Malaysia. The methodology used in this study is a qualitative research method which is a library study by examining secondary sources related to waqf and the livestock industry in Malaysia. This study shows that the waqf mechanism in the livestock sector has very good potential to be developed in Malaysia due to government policies related to the livestock industry, the need to increase food security and the trend of waqf development in Malaysia which is increasingly diversified in maximizing the benefits of Islamic economic instruments through waqf. The findings of this study are expected to help stakeholders to refine and develop waqf in various livestock sectors to meet current needs.
