Analysis reveals Zöckler's pedagogical views were shaped by socio-cultural factors and Christian ethics.
The article is devoted to a thorough analysis of the main factors that influenced the formation of the pedagogical views of Theodor Zöckler (1867–1949), a prominent teacher, educator, public and church figure, and active organizer of schooling in Galicia. The research examines a wide range of factors that played a decisive role in the formation of his pedagogical outlook, in particular: the influence of the family environment, spiritual and religious upbringing, studying in religious and secular educational institutions, familiarity with European educational concepts, and participation in practical educational and educational activities. The author analyzes the political and socio-cultural situation in Galicia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, which significantly influenced Zeckler’s worldview, in particular his views on the place of education in the processes of national revival, the formation of civic consciousness and social service. It is shown that the pedagogical ideas of Theodor Zöckler were a synthesis of the traditions of Christian ethics, folk pedagogy and the latest Western European theories of the time, adapted to the Ukrainian cultural context. The article argues that Zöckler’s pedagogical heritage is of relevance to contemporary Ukrainian education, especially in terms of moral, spiritual, and civic education of young people. His pedagogical system was formed under the influence of a number of external and internal factors: historical circumstances, intercultural dialogue, Protestant moral and ethical principles, as well as European humanistic pedagogical theories. The analysis of the factors that determined Zöckler’s pedagogical views allows not only to better understand his personal educational philosophy, but also to restore a holistic image of pedagogy as a space of service, care, and responsibility.
