This analysis reveals associations between hemodynamics and plaque distribution in the M1 segment, highlighting implications for treatment strategies.
Motivation: Intracranial atherosclerotic is an important cause of ischemic stroke. The relationship between hemodynamics and plaque distribution isn't fully elucidated. Goal(s): To investigate the association between plaque distribution and hemodynamics on different shapes of M1. Approach: TAWSS and OSI were assessed with 4DFlow, while plaque with HR-VWI. Comparison of TAWSS, OSI and wall thickness between outer- and inner-wall of the curved-section of M1, and comparisons of hemodynamics between thick- and thin-wall on straight-section were performed. Results: Regardless of M1 shape, plaques typically developed in regions of low WSS and high OSI. TAWSSCV, OSICV and Wall thicknessCV are also associated with plaque development. Impact: Our findings enhance understanding of hemodynamics effect on plaque development in intracranial atherosclerosis, and may provide guidance for risk assessment and treatment strategies.
