The article discusses the socio-functional foundations of the design of an educational and sports center as a public complex of a hybrid type, new to the Russian typology. The use of the research results makes it possible to substantiate the relevance of designing a new type of architectural object — a district center for additional education and sports — and determine the optimal functional structure based on the social requirements of consumers.
