Abstract The growth of four-year-old loblolly pine and yellow-popular established from seed on several upland sites is compared. Site treatment consisted of clearcutting, killing the residual hardwoods, prescribed burning, and sowing with treated loblolly pine seed This resulted in a satisfactory regeneration of loblolly pine, and, incidentally, also a good stand of yellow-poplar from seed that had been stored in the duff and stimulated in germination by the treatment. After four growing seasons, the average height of loblolly pine was 6.6 feet; yellow-poplar 4.4 feet.
