Introduction: Ascites is one of the manifestations of acute decompensation of liver cirrhosis. Study results in recent years indicate that liver cirrhosis is a systemic inflammation and leads to altered haemodynamics in addition to organ complications. The haemodynamic effects of paracentesis on the disturbed circulation must therefore be reconsidered. Methods: Observational study of 21 patients who underwent haemodynamic and laboratory monitoring before, under and up to 48 hours after paracentesis with albumin substitution using noninvasive haemodynamic monitoring (esCCO TM System®, Nihon Kohden, Japan).
