No regulatory document on urban planning contains a definition of the term "environmental comfort". Comfortable, convenient, and healthy living conditions for the population are created through the improvement of territories. The activity of improving territories includes a set of measures for engineering improvements (such as infrastructure development and artificial lighting); social and domestic improvement (enhancement of the social and domestic service system for the population); external improvement (greening, organization of transport and pedestrian movement, equipping the territory with small-scale architectural structures and other elements of improvement), as well as activities related to environmental rehabilitation, improvement of sanitary and hygienic conditions of residential areas, ensuring the ecological improvement of the territory. The analysis of numerous sources, project materials, and field research allowed formulating the main principles and criteria for the comprehensive assessment of the comfort of residential development territories: • Convenience of location relative to the city center, accessibility of workplaces, educational institutions, main centers of attraction and attractive city objects (water bodies, parks, forests, etc.); • Availability of services: water supply, sewage, gas supply, air conditioning, communication services, television, Internet, etc.; • Transportation, the presence of developed pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, garages, parking lots; • Accessibility of cultural and domestic service facilities, including primary level service facilities, networks of public catering, trade, medical services, etc.; • The state of territory improvement and greening; • Microclimatic and sanitary-hygienic indicators of the environment; • Organization of the household waste management system; • Inclusiveness of the living environment; • Opportunities for the population's socialization (presence of public spaces and institutions). Recommendations have been developed to improve living comfort conditions in city territories, which can be applied in various residential areas of Kyiv and other cities. Practical testing of the recommendations for comprehensive assessment and development of ways to improve living comfort conditions in city territories has shown that they will enhance the comfort of city residents and sustainable development of urban areas.
