This work is a dissertation excerpt, which sought to discuss elements present in mathematics textbooks, from the PNLD 2021, which show or do not show compliance with Law nº 10.639/03 and what representation of black people is present in the books analyzed. Therefore, the aim is to present what we found that strengthens the struggle for an anti-racist mathematics education and what corroborates a stereotyped and distorted idea of the contribution of Africans and Afro-Brazilians to mathematics. To this end, this section is characterized as qualitative research of the documentary type, which analyzed the Quadrante and Matemática Interligada collections, both approved in the PNLD 2021. It was possible to see that little can be indicated in the way of elements that make this law effective, and there are many points for reflection that need to be changed, mainly because they attribute African contributions to other mathematicians.
