Screening reveals more refractive errors in institutionalized children compared to peers, suggesting a need for vision support.
Institutionalized Emotionally Disturbed (ED). Trainable Mentally Retarded (TMR) and Educable Mentally Retarded (EMR) children in a School of Special Education were screened for refractive errors. As individual classes and also as a single retarded group, TMR and EMR children show significantly more hyperopic than ED children and children of comparable age from the normal classroom. TMR children do not differ significantly from EMR children.
