Analysis reveals online shopping reduces store visits in consumers, suggesting an omnichannel retail approach.
The rapid growth of online shopping has significantly transformed consumer purchasing behavior and the retail landscape. With increasing internet saturation and digital payment adoption, consumers are increasingly shifting from traditional brick-and-mortar stores to e-commerce platforms. This study examines the impact of online shopping on consumer mobility and offline retail visits using secondary data sources from recent research articles, industry reports, and other related articles. The study analyzes trends in e-commerce growth, changes in consumer movement patterns, and the frequency of visits to physical retail stores. The findings indicate that online shopping has reduced routine store visits and altered consumer mobility patterns; however, it has not completely replaced offline retail. Instead, a hybrid or omnichannel retail model is emerging, where online and offline channels coexist and counterpart each other. The study provides insights for retailers, policymakers, and researchers to understand the evolving dynamics of consumer behavior and retail transformation.
