Does concomitant coronary endarterectomy increase mortality and morbidity in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting?
Coronary endarterectomy during CABG is associated with increased perioperative morbidity (MI, IABP use) but does not significantly increase in-hospital mortality, making it a viable option for diffuse coronary artery disease when standard bypass is not possible.
Answers are grounded in this paper and cite their sources.
Younger CABG+CE patients signal selection effects; leaves open adjusted morbidity-mortality effects in diffuse CAD.

Ali Yener (2014) conducted a cohort in Coronary artery disease requiring CABG (n=1,187). Coronary endarterectomy (CE) and patch plasty vs. CABG surgery without CE was evaluated on Morbidity and mortality. Coronary endarterectomy during CABG was compared to CABG alone in 1187 patients, with the CABG+CE group having a mean age of 59.6 years versus 61.3 years in the control group.
