Volumetric 4D flow MRI closely matches conventional MRI for quantifying mitral and tricuspid regurgitation.
Why the study?
Does 4D flow MRI provide accurate and reproducible quantification of mitral and tricuspid regurgitation compared to conventional multiplanar MRI in patients undergoing cardiac MRI?
Observational (n=21)
No
Does 4D flow MRI provide accurate and reproducible quantification of mitral and tricuspid regurgitation compared to conventional multiplanar MRI in patients undergoing cardiac MRI?
Effect estimate: r = 0.813-0.985
4D flow MRI provides highly reproducible measurements of mitral and tricuspid regurgitant volume, suggesting it may be a viable alternative to conventional multiplanar MRI.

Offers potential reproducible alternative for regurgitation quantification; leaves open prospective validation before clinical adoption.
Feneis et al. (2018) conducted an observational in Mitral or tricuspid valve regurgitation (n=21). Volumetric 4D flow MRI vs. Conventional multiplanar MRI (2D-PC) was evaluated on Intertechnique, intermethod, interobserver and intraobserver reproducibility of measurements of regurgitant flow volume, fraction, and volume (r = 0.813-0.985). Volumetric 4D flow MRI demonstrated high concordance with conventional multiplanar MRI for quantifying mitral and tricuspid regurgitation (r = 0.813-0.985).
