Catheter ablation improves LVEF by ~9% at one year in patients with AF and HF.
Why the study?
Evidence for prognostic benefit of catheter ablation in AF patients with heart failure is limited, leading to relatively low guideline recommendations.
Does radiofrequency catheter ablation improve cardiac function parameters in patients with atrial fibrillation and coexisting heart failure?
Does radiofrequency catheter ablation improve cardiac function parameters in patients with atrial fibrillation and coexisting heart failure?
p-value: p=<0.001
Catheter ablation in AF patients with HF significantly improves multiple cardiac function parameters up to 5 years, though baseline diastolic dysfunction remains a strong predictor of long-term mortality and HF hospitalization.
May support LVEF gains with ablation in AF-HF; leaves open randomized confirmation before practice change.

Kawaji et al. (2022) conducted a review in Atrial fibrillation with heart failure (n=280). Radiofrequency catheter ablation was evaluated on Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) at 1 year (p=<0.001). Catheter ablation significantly improved LVEF from 34.5% to 43.2% at 1 year (p<0.001) in patients with atrial fibrillation and heart failure.
