Transient mitochondrial Ca2+ rises in mouse fibers are non-essential for ATP activation or damage; leaves open their role in human muscle fatigue.
Isolated slow-twitch muscle fibres show modest changes in tetanic force and myoplasmic calcium during repeated contractions, with transient increases in mitochondrial calcium that do not appear essential for ATP production activation or cause muscle damage.
