Conceptual article develops a framework for anti-racist research practices with young Black children, suggesting new approaches.
While researchers continue to make significant scholarly inroads toward the acknowledgment of Black children's agency and competencies, including their recognition of and resistance to systemic racism, practical guides to anti‐racist qualitative research with young Black children factor conspicuously less often into the contextual balance of the extant literature. Through the corrective lenses of anti‐racist and Black feminist pedagogical literature, and with the concomitant aim of centering children's perspectives, this conceptual article focuses on developing a framework to advance anti‐racist research practices with young Black children. By foregrounding anti‐racist and Black feminist concepts of Black refusal and Black futurity, structured within a desire‐based framework, the present analysis further advances the collective efforts of scholars who seek to disrupt anti‐Black racism in children's educational and social worlds, while providing imaginative, liberatory solutions for praxes rooted in radical hope and revolutionary love.
