Demonstrates improved heat dissipation in axial flux motors, suggesting better design techniques.
In response to the dynamic coupling challenges caused by complicated three-dimensional magnetic circuit and thermal management system in axial flux permanent magnet synchronous motors, this research aims to propose an electromagnetic-thermal coupled numerical approach combining the finite element analysis (FEA) and the meshless technique. Firstly, a three-dimensional electromagnetic field solution model is established by FEA to obtain electromagnetic losses. Then precise distributions of core loss and eddy current loss are obtained based on variable-scale mesh partitioning. Subsequently, taking equivalent convective heat transfer coefficients of each part inside the motor as boundary conditions, electromagnetic losses are respectively applied to the temperature field calculations based on the finite volume method (FVM) and the meshless technique. The simulation results show that the calculation efficiency is significantly higher than the traditional computing method based on mesh partitioning. The research results provide new ideas for the heat dissipation optimization analysis of complex-structured motors with high-power-density.
