Interview series highlights early-career authors in experimental biology, emphasizing diverse physiological systems.
ECR Spotlight is a series of interviews with early-career authors from a selection of papers published in Journal of Experimental Biology and aims to promote not only the diversity of early-career researchers (ECRs) working in experimental biology but also the huge variety of animals and physiological systems that are essential for the ‘comparative’ approach. Willamina MacDonald is an author on ‘ Serotonin stimulates proliferation of ionocytes via the 5-HT2A receptor in zebrafish larvae’, published in JEB. Willamina conducted the research described in this article while a Undergraduate Student in Michael Jonz's lab at Department of Biology, University of Ottawa, Canada. Willamina is now an MSc student in the lab of Corrie daCosta at Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Science, University of Ottawa, Canada, investigating the molecular mechanisms that underly neurotransmission.
