Assessment included proteinuria and structural changes at 14 and 22 weeks.
At 22 weeks, untreated rats showed proteinuria (32.2 +/- 7.4 mg/100 g/d) vs. delapril (5.5 +/- 1.2) and candesartan (3.9 +/- 0.3 mg/100 g/d) indicating treatment effectiveness.
Both treatments similarly attenuated sclerosis in renal arteries by 22 weeks.
No significant changes in renal AT1 receptor mRNA expression were found, but a transient decrease in AT2 receptor mRNA was observed at 14 weeks.
