May indicate sarcolemmal Ca2+ sustains myocyte contraction after SR depletion; leaves open relevance to human HF pathophysiology.
In guinea pig ventricular myocytes, ryanodine-induced depletion of SR Ca2+ shifts the control of electrically stimulated contractions to sarcolemmal processes, altering the time course but maintaining nearly normal amplitude.
