Localized microinjections of selective I1 agonist (rilmenidine), alpha2-adrenergic agonist (alpha-methylnorepinephrine), or mixed I1/alpha2 agonist (clonidine) into the rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) or nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS), with or without selective blockade (SK&F86466 or efaroxan)
