In a rat model of myocardial infarction, daily treatment with diacerein for 4 weeks improved left ventricular remodeling and reduced fibrosis, likely by attenuating the inflammatory response via the NF-κB pathway.

Limitations

  • Possible decrease in contractility due to greater modulation of the parasympathetic system was not addressed
  • Western blots were performed using total tissue extracts instead of cytosolic fraction extracts
