Prolonged fecal HAV shedding may warrant extended precautions in older or high-aminotransferase patients; leaves open transmission duration and isolation guidelines.
Patients with symptomatic hepatitis A infection can continue to excrete the virus in feces for at least 2 weeks after clinical onset, particularly older patients and those with severe liver enzyme elevation.
