Overview

May support reversibility of neonatal tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy with rate control; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.

Structured PICO

P
Population
1 male term neonate presenting early in the neonatal period with tachyarrhythmia, heart failure, fetal tachycardia, and large atrial septal defect-associated atrial dilatation.
I
Intervention
Synchronised cardioversion, non-invasive respiratory support, adenosine and esmolol infusions, followed by oral furosemide and enalapril at discharge.
O
Outcome
Cardiac function and cardiac chamber sizesurrogate

Tachycardia-induced cardiomyopathy in neonates can be successfully reversed with prompt rate control and heart failure management.
