Suggests microvascular barriers in insulin resistance; leaves open whether this guides clinical management of NIDDM.
Does a euglycemic insulin clamp alter arterial-interstitial glucose and lactate differences differently in normal versus insulin-resistant skeletal muscle?
The capillary wall is rate-limiting for muscle glucose uptake in normal subjects but not in postabsorptive hyperglycemic insulin-resistant subjects, and vasodilation during insulin infusion does not prevent the increase in glucose gradient in normal subjects.
