The paper describes a new type of symmetrically opening slit for use with spectrometers and similar apparatus. The results of test show that up to a slit width of 1 mm. the displacement of the centre line of the slit does not exceed 1 per cent. of the opening. Narrow slit openings can be set and repeated with precision.
