Open heart surgery with tumor excision and mitral valve plasty was successfully performed in a patient with a papillary fibroelastoma of the mitral valve, resulting in an uneventful post-operative course.
Why the study?
Does surgical resection of a mitral valve papillary fibroelastoma prevent recurrent cerebral infarctions?
Case Report (n=1)
Does surgical resection of a mitral valve papillary fibroelastoma prevent recurrent cerebral infarctions?
Surgical resection of a mitral valve papillary fibroelastoma and mitral valve plasty successfully prevented recurrent cerebral infarctions in a patient with a history of multiple strokes.
Supports resection after emboli in mitral valve papillary fibroelastoma; hypothesis-generating and should not yet change practice.

Takeuchi et al. (2002) conducted a case report in Papillary fibroelastoma of the mitral valve (n=1). Open heart surgery (tumor excision and mitral valve plasty) was evaluated on Post-operative course. Open heart surgery with tumor excision and mitral valve plasty was successfully performed in a patient with a papillary fibroelastoma of the mitral valve, resulting in an uneventful post-operative course.
