May indicate PKC-mediated memory in glomerulosa cells; leaves open translation to human aldosterone regulation or therapy.
Absolute Event Rate: 209% vs 166%
Pre-exposure of adrenal glomerulosa cells to angiotensin II induces a time-dependent 'memory' effect that enhances subsequent aldosterone secretion in response to angiotensin II or calcium channel agonists, likely mediated by sustained protein kinase C activation.
Barrett et al. (1986) studied this question. Angiotensin II and BAY K 8644 vs. Control cells was evaluated on Aldosterone secretory rate. Pretreatment of adrenal glomerulosa cells with angiotensin II for 20 minutes enhanced the subsequent aldosterone secretory response to angiotensin II or BAY K 8644 compared to control cells.
