Higher cardiorespiratory fitness is linked to blunted blood pressure during stress and enhanced recovery.

Hypothesis-generating for fitness effects on stress BP reactivity in young Black women; leaves open causality and parental hypertension moderation.
Observational (n=30)
Does cardiorespiratory fitness affect hemodynamic responses to laboratory stress in young black women with or without parental history of hypertension?
Higher cardiorespiratory fitness blunts blood pressure responses to stress in young black women, though this protective effect may be attenuated in those with a parental history of hypertension.
Jackson et al. (2002) conducted an observational in Normotension (n=30). Cardiorespiratory fitness and parental history of hypertension vs. Lower fitness / positive parental history was evaluated on Hemodynamic responses (blood pressure, heart rate, stroke volume, cardiac output, TPR, CBF, CVR) during and after laboratory stress. Higher cardiorespiratory fitness was associated with blunted blood pressure during passive stress and enhanced recovery after active stress, especially in women without parental hypertension.
